The ID verification process is not mandatory for all of the existing beneficiaries. Please see cases when it is required to verify identity:

  • First-Time Applicants: If you are applying for R350 / R370 SRD grant for the first time, your ID verification is required to confirm your eligibility. 
  • When SASSA Asks: For existing beneficiaries SASSA do not require identity verification from everyone. Only the flagged applicants are required to verify their identity. Their application status will change from “approved” to “Awaiting Identity Verification”. SRD status check will lead you to your grant status.   • Updating Personal Information: Individuals who have changed their phone number, address, or banking details must complete ID verification again to ensure their updated information matches SASSA records.
  • Rejected Applicants: If your previous application was rejected due to ID discrepancies, you must complete the verification process to resolve the issue and reapply. 

Step-by-Step Guide to Accessing and Using the Verification Link

SASSA identity verification process is not straightforward and easily accessible. It is very hard to find out how to receive the identity verification link. That’s why I have created this tool for your easy access to ID verification link. Here’s what you need to do:

Accessing the Verification Link

  • Scroll to the top of the page to access Id verification tool.
  • Enter your South African 13-digit ID number.
  • Click the verify button.
  • You will receive an SMS on your registered phone number to complete your verification using facial recognition.

Make sure you have access to the registered phone number. If you lost access to that SIM card then first change your number.

Note: You can request identity verification only once in 24 hrs.

Completing the Verification Process

Once you receive the SMS with the SASSA ID verification link, follow these steps:

  • Click the link in SMS which will take you to the South Africa home affairs website to complete the remaining procedure.
  • Confirm your personal information, such as your ID number, full name, and phone number.
  • Complete the facial recognition process.
