Checklist Before Starting the Appeal Procedure
Before you start the registration process for appeal of your declined SASSA SRD R370 grant which was previously famous as SRD R350 grant, it’s essential to ensure you complete the checklist. If you answer “Yes” to each question, then you should go ahead and appeal for your SRD grant.
Note: If your grant is rejected because your information is not up to date, ensure you update your information in the SRD grant application before lodging the appeal.
Step-by-Step Procedure to Submit SASSA Appeal for R350
SRD appeals are managed by the Department of Social Development (DSD) at the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA). You have to lodge an appeal against the decision to ITSAA. Here’s a detailed, step-by-step guide to submitting your appeal online:
Following these steps ensures that your appeal is properly submitted and reviewed by SASSA. It’s important to address any issues that led to the initial rejection
Note: Make sure to appeal for each month separately, as per ITSAA guidelines.
Submitting a Late Appeal to SASSA After 90 Days
As per SASSA guidelines, you must apply for an appeal within 3 months after getting a rejection for any month’s grant. But if you miss this deadline, there is still a chance that ITSAA might accept your appeal if you give a strong and convincing reason. To do this, you need to fill out the “Application for Condonation for Late Appeal” form and submit it to ITSAA.
In Section A of the form, enter your personal details, and in Section 2, state the reason for lodging the late appeal. You can send the form via email or visit ITSAA in person to complete the appeal procedure.
Tips for a Successful SRD Appeal
If you wish that your application gets a successful outcome then you need to be more careful while providing information. Read the following tips to help you in the appeal process:
- Lodge the appeal as soon as you receive notification of rejection from SASSA
- Double-check eligibility requirements
- Provide accurate, consistent and updated information
- Clearly state your reason for appeal
- Submit appeal within the deadline of 90 days
- Follow up with ITSAA if you do not receive any response from ITSAA within the expected timeframe
- Be patient and persistent
- Keep records of all correspondence might be required in case appeal is also rejected
Checking Status of Your ITSAA Appeal
ITSAA usually informs you with the decision by SMS on your registered mobile number. In case, you do not receive the outcome of your appeal after 60 days then you should check the status of your submitted appeal online. Keep checking your status regularly until 90 days have passed. If the appeal decision is still pending then you should contact ITSAA directly and inquire about your appeal.
What if ITSAA Reject the Appeal?
Once the Independent Tribunal rejects your appeal, the decision is final. You cannot request reconsideration or lodge another appeal with SASSA or ITSAA for that month. If your wish is to challenge the ITSAA decision further, you must take the matter to the high court. You can file an application for judicial review within 180 days as per the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act, 2000.
However, I would personally advise against pursuing this route unless you are absolutely certain that the decision is incorrect. Legal proceedings can be time-consuming and costly. If you still wish to proceed, it’s advisable to seek legal advice from a professional lawyer.
