SASSA SRD R350 Grant vs. R370 Grant Latest Update

Do not get confused with SRD R350 grant and SRD R370 grant, both are same. Previously the amount for this grant was 350 Rands so it was popular with the name of “R350 grant”. South African Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced this increase of R20 in SRD grant and many other social grants as well on 13 March 2024 in National Assembly . He also stated that the Covid-19 relief grant will continue until March 2025, after which a decision will be made on whether to continue it further or not.

What is the Importance of SASSA Grants for South African Residents?

South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has been a lifeline for many of their country, offering vital support to those in need and paving the way for a brighter future. According to Statista, total population of South Africa in 2022 was 60.6 million. An estimated 30% of which are living in extreme poverty, and almost 22% of the total population are those who have no income at all.

According to the State of the Nation Address (SoNA) reports of 2024, more than 26 million people in South Africa get social grants. About 9 million unemployed people get the SRD grant alone. The Child Support Grant helps over 12 million children, making sure they have food, clothes, and education until they turn 18.

SASSA also supports disabled people and those over 60 years old. The Older Persons Grant helps over 3.5 million elderly South Africans, and the Disability Grant helps over 1 million disabled people with medical treatments, assistive devices, and daily expenses.

SASSA grants make sure people have basic necessities and improve the quality of life for many South Africans.
